Employment Police Checks Overview
In a time of growing uncertainty, employers want to know they are hiring suitable candidates. To ensure this, an increasing number of businesses are now requesting current, and prospective employees undergo police clearance checks – for several industries and occupations it’s a statutory requirement.
The Employment Police Checks provided by IDV Pacific can fulfil this requirement by returning a Police Check report from the National Police History database.
Who can use it?
An Employment Police Check can be ordered by any individual who needs to provide police clearance to a current or future employer.
Employers can also order an Employment Police Check on behalf of their current/prospective employee (as long as they have the employee’s permission to do so)
Business accounts are also available for employers that need to process multiple or frequent checks.
What Do You Get?
Upon completion of an Employment Police Check, the results are issued as a National Police History Check certificate.
The result will display your full name, date of birth, the purpose of the check, and if any Disclosable Court Outcomes are recorded against your name. Disclosable Court Outcomes can include:
- Court appearances
- Pending Court Cases
- Findings of guilt in any court (with or without conviction)
- Good behaviour bonds or other court orders
The type of disposable information will vary depending on; the purpose of the check and the relevant spent conviction legislation in each State and Territory.

The Application Process for Police Checks
Applying for an Employment Police Check is simple – the application process is paperless and can be completed online via the IDV Pacific website (Contact us – you will require an IDV Pacific account). The only requirements are that you provide true & correct information, along with four selected ID documents for verification purposes.
Processing times will vary and are based on whether your details have a potential match in the National Police History database.
70% of applications are completed within a matter of minutes – while the remaining 30% require manual review and can take several business days to complete.
To streamline an application, upfront payment is required, as it allows us to keep track of your application – it also lets you save your progress and return to the application at any time. We do not keep or save any credit cards in our system.
At this step, you need to provide a few more details such as the purpose of the check (e.g. type of employment, description of position) and some more personal details (including previous names and address details).
Finally, upload ID documents so that we can verify your identity. A guide and calculator for ID documents is built into the application form, to let you know which documents you can upload.
For peace of mind, your employer can verify the certificate via our online verification tool.
